Yerba Buena Center on March 7: Apple set to unveil iPad3 in an invite-only event

Apple's iPad 3 unveiling is likely looming at its scheduled an invite-only event on March 7 at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, which has caused the rumor mill to kick into its highest gear.

Yerba Buena Center on March 7: Apple set to unveil iPad3 in an invite-only event
Yerba Buena Center is the same venue Apple used to uncover the earlier two models of iPad. Apple, has sent the invitation to reporters by e-mail on Tuesday, without disclosing the details of the event, but just said that “we have something you really have to see. And touch.” The invitation also featured a partial picture of a device resembling the iPad.

Although everyone is waiting for something vigorously dubbed as ‘iPad 3’ but it is also rumored that the new model of iPad could be unveiled with another name.

Apple iPad tablet sales doubled in the December quarter to 15.43 million units from a year earlier. The company has sold about 55 million iPads since it introduced the device in 2010.

Although the iPad has managed to dominate the consumer tablet market since its inception, but experts say it will face stiff competition in 2012. The first challenge is likely to come from Microsoft, which aims to give tough time to Apple with Windows 8 on tablets. Windows 8 features an interface optimized for touch input and due at the end of current year.

Amazon’s Kindle Fire, which sells at half the cost of an iPad, has chipped away at the lower end of the tablet market and still promises to repeat it in 2012.

In addition, Google and its own manufacturing partners show no signs of dwindling their joint pursuit to make Android a tablet player, despite the weak performance of many supposed “iPad killers” that hit the marketplace in 2011.

The Kindle Fire has a 7-inch display, runs on Google's Android software. The Amazon Kindle Fire allows video and music streaming and Web browsing via Wi-Fi, though full range of apps is still not made public.

Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon, is eyeing the Fire will catch on where other rival tablets - Hewlett-Packard and Research in Motion - have fallen short.

HandyShell: Functional and Protective iPad Case - - Use Your iPad With Utmost Ease

We’re all looking for a case for our iPad that is going to be comfortable for us to hold, but also have functionality beyond a regular case. Seeing as the iPad can be kind of hard to just set to the side, a protective covering such as the HandyShell would be ideal so you can hang it up on a hook or prop it up.

This case is made out of polyurethane and polycarbonate housing that will give you all the protection you could want. It features a handle on the back of the case that can be rotated about 180 degrees. It’s not just a convenient stand though. This handle makes holding the iPad much easier, provides a sort of “neck” for the Guitar app, and can give you a way to hang the iPad on the wall. It does cost a pretty penny at $54.95, but it has a lot of functionality that will make it money well spent.

Nomad Paintbrush Stylus - - Let You Create Artistic Masterpieces Digitally on Your iPad

There are tons of artists out there who are intimidated by the old-fashioned tools and mediums. Mixing paints is much more of a hassle anymore, and buying a ton of paint and canvas can get expensive for those who want to paint just for the fun of it. The iPad wants you to be able to create some masterpieces, and not be reduced to finger-painting anymore.

For a bit of a throwback combined with our fancy-dancy iPad, we will now have access to this Nomad Paintbrush Stylus that will act as a real brush and not a solid circle to be dragged across the screen. At only $24, you can convert to electronic art if you’re already an experience painter, and sell prints in no time. Slowly but surely we are moving to a paperless society, and it’s a good thing we haven’t forgotten about our art.

Apple Likely to Build WiFi, UMTS and CDMA Models of the Next Race of iPad - - According to DigiTimes

According to DigiTimes, Taiwanese industry publication, reports on Tuesday; Apple is likely to build WiFi, UMTS and CDMA models of the next race of iPad in a respective build ratio of 3:4:3. Production of the device is expected to start as early as the first half of January, with about a half-million iPads expected to be assembled.

Referring to industry sources the report claimed that between 60 to 65 percent of current iPad shipments are the UMTS 3G model. Because of this, Apple is expected to work even more closely with wireless partners for the second-generation tablet.

The report also pointed to the fact that Apple is expected to have shipped about 16 million iPads in 2010, and between 2 million and 3 million units will remain in the channel at the start of 2011. That number is expected to satisfy demand as Apple gradually stops production of the first-generation device, in time for the debut of "iPad 2."

Pictures if iPad Mini Found Again on The Web - - This Time It Looks to Be WiFi Version

Just before Christmas, on December 22, we featured pictures of a mini iPad in the hands of Taiwanese Pop Star, Jimmy Lin. Although it couldn't be confirmed if it was the real deal or not, it did look quite convincing in that the proportions were about right, the bezel was quite thin and you could see iOS (or a photograph of iOS) running on the screen.

Late Christmas day, we received a tip from Edd Withers who claims he was sent more pictures of a mini iPad. Although we'd love to think they were the real thing, they just don't quite convince us as much as we want.

One thing to note is that the previous version posted was a 3G model (black antenna seen on top bezel). This model looks to be the WiFi version. The bezel on these new pictures is huge which leads us to think it's a fake. Also, it looks marginally thicker than a 9.7 inch iPad.

From the looks of the video, the PlayBook seems to be a lot faster in loading a web page than the Apple iPad, although we would prefer to see some independent tests of this rather than one created by RIM.

In the video the PlayBook featured is not running the final firmware which will be with the tablet when it is released. It will be interesting to see how the BlackBerry PlayBook compares to the iPad when it is tested independently.

Next Generation iPad - - Apple Already Started Shooting Commercials for New Product

It has been a while since we have heard anything about the next generation Apple iPad or iPad 2, now it seems that Apple has already starting filming commercials for the iPad 2.

There are reports that Apple hired photographer David Sims to shoot the new iPad 2 commercials, and they were apparently shot at New York’s Pier 59 last month.

It seems that the existing iPad was used in the commercials, and that these will be replaced by the iPad 2 before the commercials are aired. It seems that the participants of the new commercial had to sign a non disclosure agreement, although we suspect one of them may have leaked the information.
