The exploration of alien territory remains foremost on a lot of minds. Even with the mapping of much of the universe and the exploration of the Moon, NASA has not given up on learning more and as much as it can about these foreign and strange territories.
The search and exploration of new territories is done through the strivings of different fields working together to make this possible. This time, NASA has joined hands with Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company for the production of an airless tire that could be used on the Lunar Roving Vehicles (LRVs) that do the reconnaissance work on the alien ground. Titled Spring Tire, the airless tire is made of 800 load bearing springs which will make it possible for the rover to carry heavier items than the previous LRVs were able to.
The Spring Tires can stand the harsh difference in temperature and there were lesser chances on the tire being punctured (even if it did, this would only affect a couple of the springs). The design for the Spring Tire is so inspirational that it may even be used on Earth vehicles some day.
