With billions of people over the world lacking access to safe drinking water, industrial designers have taken up the opportunity to design systems that help improve the conditions for some. Designer Mostafa Bonakdar has shared with us his new concept water dispensing unit that collects and purifies rainwater to be used as drinking water. Christened the Hydroleaf, the water dispensing unit, which also functions as a shelter, makes use of renewable solar energy for the filtration process.
The designer estimates that the Hydroleaf can store up to 60 liters of water in its tank and the amount of water inside can be checked using a vertical glass placed on the storage tank. The solar energy collected by the system can be also be utilized to power a set of lights to illuminate the streets after dark.
