Natalie Portman Suffering Insomnia Due to Short-sleep During the Production of "Black Swan"

Natalie Portman worked so hard during the production of “Black Swan” that she slept only five hours a day.

“Basically, I didn’t do anything except work, there was no, like, meeting up with friends for dinner or going to the movies,” the actress said.

“We’d do 16-hour days, then I’d go home and work out, because I had to stay in shape, and I’d prepare for the next day’s scenes and then get maybe five hours of sleep – it was really, really extreme.

“It was scary, disciplined and rigorous, and I think, in a way, that fit into the mindset of the characters.”

Showbiz Spy overheard Portman.

Apparently, her role as Nina the ballerina is a dicey one – a part which didn’t go down well with Portman’s papa Avner Hershlag.

It’s not the first sexy role she’s played: Portman won a best supporting actress Golden Globe for her turn as a stripper in Mike Nichol’s “Closer.”

“Natalie is a very private and dignified person and is often influenced by her father’s approval,” a Showbiz source explains.

“This, however, was one role she simply didn’t want to turn down even though she knew it would upset her father.

“He still sees her as his baby and always will and thinks showing herself like this is degrading.”
