Airbnb is a pretty good startup with a practical idea. This is how it works. This websites enables you to rent out your house, flat, or even room as holiday rentals. All you would have to do is contact them and then pay then a part of the booking, approximately 6-12 percent. Airbnb was founded in August of 2008 by Joe Gebbia and a few of his friends out of their shared apartment in San Francisco’s SoMA district.
The idea of staying with strangers might turn off some people, but this company has been doing pretty well. These guys created a great interface, garnered lots of media attention, and got a bunch of really hip people to start renting out their places. This website now offers rooms in 8,000 cities and have had more than 560,000 nights booked in the last six months! Their average price is merely $50, but still, they have managed to turn in a revenue of $1.7 million.
If you are trying to get a cheap place to stay and don’t mind staying with a few strangers then this is a great pick. I mean chances of getting a hotel room in New York in less than $150 is pretty slim. Airbnb on the other hand does offer you that chance. Plus those who are renting out also get to make some extra money. Not bad! Not bad at all!
