UK has girdled up its loin to make a mark in Eco-Marathon competition in Germany tomorrow with its eco-car. Created and designed by plucky students from Coventry University, the British piece of engineering will give tough challenge to 200 other entries from 24 countries in completion to find the world’s most fuel efficient car.
British eco-car’s body work is fashioned from the plastic sheeting that estate agents use in ‘for sale’ signs and the car will be strapped on with nylon ties and some gaffer tape. And the engine of eco- cars would power a humble garden trimmer in somewhat different situations.
The vehicle will be having a tiny plastic container, which is same in size to a Coke can, at the back of the car that will hold enough fuel to enable this remarkable vehicle travel from London to Brighton. And on the trial basis, Paul Harris has reached the maximum speed of 12MPH in the eco-car.
The zero emission car’s throttle is operated not by boot, but by a choke-pull style lever below the handlebar steering mechanism. Also, there is a brake pedal, horn and kill-switch. Every spare ounce from the car has been trimmed to enhance the fuel efficiency.
Again, with the fuel efficiency in mind, the car is to be driven by Maively Sulli whom nature has made her perfectly trim, but engineering ingenuity has made the car even lighter than she is. Well, this would pave the way for new techniques to increase fuel efficiency and protect environment. It would have been great if saloon cars have the same fuel economy.
