I’ve drilled a lot of holes in concrete and brick, and it’s a pretty darn messy business, especially inside. In fact I’ve even killed a Dyson vacuum cleaner by feeding it one too many powdered bricks (no loss of suction, my foot). Anyway, Bosch know all this and they’ve been making dust-retaining power-tools for DIYers for a while now. This Bosch 11221DVR Rotary Hammer with its scuba-like onboard dust collection and capture system, would seem to show they’re now stepping into the big league.
Using a dedicated fan and extendable collar around the drill hole, dust is collected and stored in an easy-to empty, high capacity cloth bag. It’s also got serious 7/8″ drive with SDS-Plus fittings and you can select between rotary hammer, hammer, or just rotation. US$373.
# Integrated dust collection system – keeps work environment clean in critical areas
# SDS-plus bit system – tool-free bit changes with automatic bit locking, dust protection and maximum impact energy transfer rate
# Multi-function selector – 3 modes of operation, rotation only, rotary hammer and hammer only mode
# Variable-speed reversing trigger – for accurate bit starting, as well as removing fasteners or bound bits
