ECO activist and radio host, Erika Biddle heard Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger say that “if the environmentalist movement wants more participation, they need to make it sexier.” That statement brought to mind the group of British women, ‘Calendar Girls’ who posed for a Calendar to support Leukemia Research, and inspired her to try something similar to raise funds for an environmental cause.
She organized a group of 15 women, between the ages of 44-78 who posed semi-nude for a ‘Women Sustaining the Earth’ 2010 Environmental Calendar. The photo shoot took place at locations around Key West and the Florida Keys, with each month featuring a different natural setting to emphasize the natural ageless beauty of the women.
The first 500 Calendars printed sold out, but due to high demand, a second printing is in progress. Calendars are $25.00 and include shipping and handling. A limited number of special Collectors Editions, signed by all of the Calendar Girls are available for $100 each.
For short biographies and quotes from the models giving insight into their reasons for participating, visit the WEBsite. But if you want to see more pictures, you’ll have to buy the Calendar!
It took a while to get used to the idea, said 74-year-old Shirley Freeman, a former mayor and commissioner of Monroe County. I’ve always tried to present myself as professional and with good judgment. But this is a different side of me I really never have explored. And, it’s for a good cause.
