The first thing you notice is that it’s fairly big for a netbook – 11 inches – and also that it is very thin, something made possible by its undoubtedly futuristic and practical (but most probably expensive) carbon fibre casing which is nicely complimented by the aluminium keyboard.
This carbon fibre shell also makes it pretty light, coming in at only 700 grams (ish), which will make it ideal for those people who need something small-ish on the go, who have lots of money, can’t carry 1kg and don’t want really high specifications.
OK, a little over the top with the cynical comments, but the last point is one that is interesting. Whilst the model displayed at the IFA sported an Atom processor, Windows 7, 2GB of memory and a 31Wh battery Sony have said that the inclusion of the popular Atom processor is ‘far from decided’ and the rest of the specs remain behind tightly closed lips.
But regardless of the lack of information this is definitely worth a look at, and although it’s a little early to say that it will be a huge success judging purely by looks it’s fair to say that many people will be won over purely by the sleek and shiny design. Sony say official specs of the Vaio X netbook will be coming sometime in October and that units will be available a week after Windows 7 releases.
