Unveiling of Subaru’s all-new hybrid concept car will take place at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show. Dubbed as the ‘Hybrid Tourer Concept’, the car uses three power sources to propel it at different situations. It combines a pair of electric motors and a lithium-ion battery with the Symmetrical AWD and boxer engine making eco-commutation a practicable certainty.
The horizontally opposed, turbocharged and direct-injected four-cylinder boxer engine residing just below the hood powers the front wheels whenever necessary. The engine uses Lineartronic CVT transmission to promote maximum fuel efficiency. The 20kW rear electric motor will propel the car at low speeds, and will assist in acceleration and hill climbing. While acting as a regenerator to recapture brake energy and recharge the lithium-ion battery is the 10kW front electric motor. The front electric motor also provides additional propulsion for climbing hills.
Apart from the high-tech powering system, Subaru’s Hybrid Tourer Concept displays its aesthetically and intelligently designed body. It flaunts its giant wing-like doors that offer access for both the front- and rear-seat passengers and a dashboard that moves up and down to offer the driver a perfect view ahead.
