Not everyone is happy with the news that original judge Paula Abdul is slated not to return to ‘American Idol’—and alumni are speaking out on her behalf.
Jordin Sparks, Adam Lambert and Melinda Doolittle are among the ‘American Idol’ alumni who’ve voiced their disapproval that Paula Abdul will not be returning to the show.
“It was dumb on American Idol’s part,” Jordin Sparks told KIIS-FM. “I love American Idol and I respect them. It’s because of them that I got my start, but Paula [Abdul] was one of the original judges. She helped soften the blow for contestants when we didn’t do well. I love Paula. The show will definitely not be the same without her, and I feel bad that future contestants will not get to experience having her on the show,” she continued. “I’m so sad.”
Adam Lambert similarly expressed regret that Paula Abdul wouldn’t be back to judge ‘American Idol’ contestants. He told Rolling Stone, “I think she brings so much heart to the show. She’s so supportive, [Paula Abdul] knows what it’s like to be a performer and she really provides a sense of safety for the auditioners in the room. I have no doubt her future endeavors will bring her success and happiness. She’s got a lot that she’s capable of.”
And fellow ‘American Idol’ contestant Melinda Doolittle posted a blog on her website that moved Paula Abdul to tears—a portion of which you can read below.
Paula “understands what you’re going through and empathizes with you. [She is] the one who knows you may just need to hear ONE good thing…even if it’s that your makeup looks good. She’s also the one judge that comes to the rehearsals for the AI tour and still offers that encouragement and advice that you quickly realize you still need to hear after all the cameras have turned off,” Melinda wrote on her Web site.
