Brooksville artist James Oleson keeps himself busy in providing an artistic connotation to steel snippets that otherwise would find a place in the junkyard or landfills. Just recently, he finished lowering a horse statue – reminds me of Equine – in front of City Hall in Brooksville. The sculpture is made of recycled steel and is comparatively larger than the Equine. Since the latter has now found a niche at an art gallery in Jacksonville, Oleson is creating a new horse for the building.
Artist’s statement:
I find myself climbing amongst the ruble of a recently demolished high rise, and digging in the garbage for fragments of a recent fabrication, or in a junk yard dragging off parts of an old dinosaur that time has forgotten. I believe in things discarded lies the seeds of infinite possibilities.
Still in the development phase, the horse sculpture stands tailless as of now. Four long leg poles make it tall enough to notice how people would react to its enormity and grandeur.
When completed, the sculpture might look like the one in the top image.
