Jakub Szczesny of design collective Centrala has come up with a floating island as a part of the Sychronicity architecture/art festival in Warsaw, Poland. The floating island consists of a set of exercise machines, which when used pump water from the polluted Vistula River to a filtration device.
The filtration device located overhead at the center of the platform, purifies water, which at the end of the purification cycle is ready to be used for drinking. The system can serve as a prototype machine which uses human power for purifying water and can be a boon for areas that have no dearth of polluted water that needs to be cleaned with minimum impact on the ecosystem.
