"MP4-12C" Mclaren Automotive's New Super Car - - Carrying a Lot of Expectations

The McLaren F1 is a legend, and one that will probably live on forever. With a legacy like that, there’s a whole ton of expectations from McLaren Automotive’s new supercar, the MP4-12C. The way things stand, the supercar will hit roads in 2011, and isn’t likely to disappoint. It has been five years in the making, and McLaren have been probably holding on and waiting for the recession to go away completely before the supercar be put on offer.

McLaren have kept the mid-engine, rear wheel drive, two seat car a low weight with the use of carbon fiber, composites, and smart engineering. Its chassis is made of single piece carbon fiber and weighs just 176 pounds. Power comes from a 3.8-l twin-turbocharged V8 that offers 592hp and 443 lb-ft of torque. McLaren calls this V8 the M838T engine. The zero to sixty time will be a quick affair completed in just 3.5 seconds, and the car will be able to go all the way to 220mph. The supercar is expected to be priced in the range of $206,300-$288,775.
