TONGUE-EYE FOR BLINDS - - BRAINPORT DEVICE

The BrainPort is a device which has a function of letting the blind see with their tongues.

To work, the BrainPort uses a head-mounted camera to capture what’s infront of the wearer. A device is then attached to the tongue that uses electrodes in an array. The images captured from the camera are turned in to electrical pulses and then sent to the electrodes in turn, giving the user some spatial awareness and even the ability to read some text.

The spatial aware and text reading device is waiting for FDA approval after which, it should retail around $10000 which is a fairly hefty price. If it does the job as described on the tin it could be well worth that $10K though.
