SPRINT NEXTEL

Sprint Nextel, that is one of the biggest wireless network operators in the United States, has announced that, it will be soon selling Samsung manufactured cell phones on its own network. These new cell phones are embedded with Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode (AM-OLED) display technology, that provides the phone with longer battery life and better video and image quality.

Sprint plans to include these latest cell phones in its high-end series, making them available at the costs of high end phones. Sprint had to categorize these cell phones in the ‘high end’ category due to the fact that the AM-OLED technology is very new and thus manufacturing of cell phones based on this technology.

Samsung and Sprint Nextel have decided to introduce the new phone in the fourth quarter of 2009. According to David Owens, (Director of Customer Acquisition, Sprint Nextel),

“That’s typically more in a high-end phone … It won’t be across the portfolio. The vibrancy of the screen is world class. Consumers are willing to may more as long as they’re getting value.”

As of now, the only cell phone based on AM-OLED technology currently available in the United States is Samsung Impression, which is currently available through AT&T. However, Sprint Nextel wont’ be only selling the an AM-OLED cell phone, Samsung has also agreed to sell Samsung Reclaim via Sprint. Reclaim is comprised of bio-plastic materials and comes with a charger that reminds the users to unplug the phone, once its charged. Samsung Reclaim in expected to hit the commercial markets in September 2009, and will be available at all Wal-Mart outlets for $49.99, provided the consumers sign a two-year contract with Sprint Nextel.
