COMMON ROBOT OPERATING SYSTEMS (ROS)

Robotics used to be the imaginary beings created by sci-fi writers but it have since become a reality that has not yet lost its charm. The world over, the creation of robots for different reasons has become a fascination. Indeed, many believe that interaction with robots would become an everyday occurrence for humans in the future.

The production of robots may remain top most in the minds of the robot-obsessed. However, the low amount of interaction between these people has their adverse effects. Currently, each robot made remains unique. This may have appeared a a novelty in the beginning but, on retrospect, the loopholes in this are just beginning to become apparent. The uniqueness of the operating systems of robots made at the moment make interaction between them unlikely and extremely minimal at any level.

Roboticists have begun to realise that what they require is a common operating system for robots. The Robot Operating System (ROS) is an open-source set of programs being developed by teams from Stanford University, Massachusetts institute of Technology, and the Technical University of Munich. ROS would work as a platform which provides software commands and more.
