We're not sure how we feel about beauty contests here at Asylum. On the one hand they're old-fashioned and slightly embarassing relics of the 1970s, when judging women explicitly by their swimsuit wearing abilities was 'okay'.
On the other hand... well we do like ladies in swimming costumes...
Our strategy for the last few years has therefore been to let the beauty queens come to us. If their faces/tripping-up videos come to our attention online then, sure, we'll take a peek. But we aren't going hunting for them.
Well that all changed last week when we noticed the crowning of the incredibly hot MIss Black USA. That set off a chain of events that ended in our spending most of the week scouring American websites (with stupidly small pictures!) to look for the beauty queens we didn't know about.
18-year old Harrison, N.Y., high school senior Christina Marraccini is 2009's Miss Italia USA. She will now travel to the motherland to compete gaainst other Miss Italias and get groped by old men in clubs.
Since we're doing the ethnic thing, here's reigning Miss Latina Delisi Duarte. OK, she looks good. But is she wise?
Maegen Ridley, Miss Rodeo America 2009, could lasso our steer anytime. (If you know what we mean.)
Shannon McAnally is quite attractive by most standards, but we're not quite sure she can to pull off the lofty title of Ämerica's Perfect Miss". The pageant will try again next week when they crown the 2009 winner.
While we were just going to limit this to American competitions, we feel Rachel Burr, who won our very own "Face of Origin" pageant, deserves to be recognized. And not just for her face.
Miss Hawaiian Tropic's emphasis on coconut-oil-covered flesh makes it our favorite beauty pageant. 2009 winner Arielle Reitsma hails from Cape Cod -- which may well be the opposite of Hawaii.
