Rothe Lowman Architects have planned out the first true high rise residential building even built in Coburg, which in addition to housing 259 apartments will also include renewable energy generation systems and other features to reduce the overall energy consumption of the building.
Dubbed AIR Apartments, the building will provide a new urban lifestyle to young families in Melbourne’s fastest growing suburbs. The building will include wind turbines for on-site electricity generating, solar water heating systems and thermal chimneys allow cross flow ventilation and hence reduce heat gain.
The south facing wall of the building will be double glazed to reduce heat gain and lower the amount of energy needed to cool the interiors. Studios in the building will be priced from $220,000, one bedroom apartments from $257,000 and two bedroom apartments from $420,000.
