Laptop theft is a growing concern, especially in corporate environments where reputation, trade secrets, customer information and privacy is at risk. There are a number of things you can do to secure your notebook while it’s still in your possession, but what recourse do you have once it is stolen? Of course you should file a police report, but the data loss could still result in financial loss.
Designed for enterprise customers, the Fujitsu notebook, FMV-LIFEBOOK model FMV-S8390 addresses this issue. The laptop’s selling point is CLEARSURE technology, a feature which when invoked allows a company to remotely delete all data from the hard drive when the laptop is reported missing or stolen.
The FMV-S8390 notebook uses a built-in communication module for the remote deletion. So long as the notebook is in range of the PHS network, HDD data can be deleted even when the laptop has been turned off.
Other features of the Fujitsu notebook include an Intel Core 2 Duo / Celeron processor, 1GB RAM, 160GB encrypted hard drive, 10.5 hour long life battery, DVD burner and a 13.3-inch display.
The FMB-LIFEBOOK notebook will retail in Japan this September for $2,291.
