Tech giant, Sony Corp. has reported that all Sony Vaio pcs will carry Google Chrome as the default browser. For now, the deal is limited to personal computers sold within the US and there are no immediate plans of expanding this deal to other parts of the world.
Up until this announcement, Microsoft’s Internet Explorer was the only browser on the Vaio. With government regulations and hardware vendor deals such as this, Microsoft’s market share is slowly being eroded. Currently, IE holds 59% of the browser market share with Mozilla Firefox at 31% and Google Chrome at 3.4% of the market.
Sony expects to sell 6.2 million Vaio computers in this fiscal year that ends in March and this will certainly result in an increase in Google Chrome’s market share.
