Skype announced Canadian iPhone users will now have access to the Skype network by downloading free software that is available through the Apple App store. The Skype iPhone application had already launched back in April for US customers, but due to patent issues it could not be released in Canada at that time.
With the use of voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) service, Skype subscribers are able to make free phone calls all over the world to other Skype users. Customers can also call regular landlines and mobile phones at rates much cheaper than the wireless long-distance rates. The Skype application uses Wi-Fi, 3G or EDGE connections to make voice calls. This will be a wakeup call for the Canadian Telco’s as mobile VOIP has arrived.
