BMW’s first hybrid car will be showcased at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September and will be available in the American and Canadian BMW showrooms by late 2009. BMW claims that the fuel consumption and the emissions from the car will be reduced by 20% when compared with current models.
The Hybrid X6 uses a technology that combines a combustion engine with electric motors to improve the top driving speed to 130 miles per hour, while at the same time decreasing overall fuel consumption.
The car is powered by a 400 horse power twin turbocharged V8 gasoline engine with 2 electric synchronous motors delivering 91 hp and 86 hp respectively. This allows the car to reach 60 miles per hour in less than 6 seconds.
The eco friendly car has received a CO2 rating of 231 g/km and the highlight of the Hybrid X6 is that it can operate on electric power only with zero carbon emissions. It also automatically shuts down in standstill traffic.
