Nicole Richie and Joel Madden invited about 130 close family and friends for their planned wedding Saturday, after two children and four years together.
Other than close family members and friends there was also a strange guest; a trained elephant was spotted being led into the Los Angeles estate of Richie's father, music superstar Lionel Richie, where two tents were set up for the ceremony on a warm evening.
The couple appeared, otherwise, to be bonded to traditions. Their rings were by jeweller Neil Lane, who also made Richie's 4-carat engagement ring.
"They wanted an Old Hollywood, glamorous feel to their wedding," says another source. "They're going all-out with the decor. Nicole wanted a memorable, elegant affair for only their closest friends and family on their special day."
The secret behind the presence of elephant wasn't known straight away.
Guests included the groom's twin brother and Good Charlotte bandmate Benji Madden, 31.
Richie, 29 and Madden, 31, announced their engagement in February, and Richie's friends threw her a luxurious bachelorette party in Mexico in September.
