The world of wearable technology, wherein the clothes we wear are designed to help us in our various electronic tasks as well for entertainment as well is at a rapid progress. The wearable technology integration in recent times has witnessed some remarkable achievements and one of such triumphs is the light animated figure skating costume, designed by Marina Polakoff at ShowOfLight.
This one of a kind professional costume was worn by ice skater Isabella Moro at the Crystalline Figure Skating Competition 2010 and the concept of integrating animated visuals on to Isabella’s costume was the brainchild of choreographer Lisa Navarro and figure skating coach Colleen Phillips. With the aid of Marina Polakoff, the trio managed to embed lights into the skater’s costumer, all while retaining the original weight of the costume and providing Isabella with ample room for her to perform the impeccably choreographed routine.
The lights embedded in the costumer reacted to the ongoing music, due to the ShowOfLight software’s real time beat and pitch recognition technology and thus the costume playful animation as per the rhythm of the music. Marina has stated her plans to incorporate this incredible technology into multiple ice skating costumes, so that when the contenders perform their routine, these costumes will able to render animals and visuals on a much grand scale.
