"Corky" Eco-Friendly Mouse Designed by Adele Peter - - One of 18 Finalists in This Year’s Greener Gadgets Design Competition

Nothing says green and eco-friendly like putting away plastic and using a biodegradable substance in its place or doing away with the usage of batteries that lead to pile up of toxic waste once done with. Plastic and batteries form the greatest threat to environment not because they are individually devastating, but are used in such large numbers across the globe that collectively, they end up destroying whatever they touch after being disposed into waste. Adele Peters’ Corky mouse does away with one of the usages of batteries and that makes this cool little invention an instant hit.

One of 18 finalists in this year’s Greener Gadgets Design Competition, Corky is made of completely biodegradable and 100% recyclable material. Mostly made from recycled corks, (obviously, hence the name), Corky runs by converting kinetic energy into electric energy. In other words, all the effort you put into clicking the mouse, moving it around and even rolling the scroll wheel will now be converted to energy that will make the wireless mouse run on its own!

With many gadgets already harnessing kinetic energy, there is absolutely no reason why the same cannot happen for computer peripherals. Adele Peters is also planning on a waste retrieval and disposal system for Corky that enables it to be disposed off safely once done with. Now considering Corky’s practicality, maybe it’s time for keyboards to follow the green path!
