“Violence against women” is ever increasing in many parts of the world. They occur in different lights in different places. Many measures and rules have been taken into practice to tackle this cruel problem. However, it cannot be yet obliterated. This time around, an MIT student, Adam Whiton and clothing designer Yolita Nugent came up with a joint research project to develop clothing for women that will record assaults on them and store the data on a computer.
You might be wondering how this novel clothing design works. Well, it is done via sensors that are placed all over the dress, which capture the evidence whenever the wearer is attacked by an offender. This sounds pretty cool but it’s really doubtful whether or not this clothing line will actually help in reducing the rates of violence against women.
This sensor clothing can only record the incident but not protect the victim (the wearer) from being attacked. Another factor is its price value. Considering the high-end technology applied in the clothing, it’s apparent that it will not come with a tiny price tag. Hence, there could be fewer buyers. In my opinion, women should instead be encouraged to take up self defense courses so that they can defend themselves in times of attacks.
