The MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) industry is currently being led by Blizzard’s World Of Warcraft, and so far no other MMORPG has been able to hold a candle to its popularity. That may change, however, with the arrival of Aion, a multi-awarded MMO that poses the first legitimate threat to WoW in a long while.
Aion is a 3-D universe that pits two races of winged creatures living on two hemispheres of a crippled planet called Atreia. One race lives on the lower hemisphere, blessed with sunlight all year round, while the other race lives in the dark, chaotic upper hemisphere. The two races will have to deal with each other and marauding winged monsters in a world gone mad.
SteelSeries, a company specializing in gaming peripherals, believes in Aion’s potential so much that it launched a special keyset and mousepad specifically for the use in the game. The keyset has keys that are preset to certain commands in the game, and the mousepad offers a superior, more responsive gameplay experience.
The videos about NCSoft’s new MMO all look pretty promising, but whether it can take the shine off World of Warcraft depends on how the game performs after it gets launched this month.
