Aberdeen University Library - - A 10-Storey Glow-in-the-Dark Rectangular Tower in UK

If you’re ever in the UK in winter and looking for a library, you’ll be able to spot the Aberdeen University library from miles away.

The Aberdeen University library is a large 10-storey rectangular tower with a façade that serves as a climate buffer, meaning it changes in response to different qualities and quantities of light, or when images are projected onto it. As DesignScene notes, “it will be visible as a glowing landmark.”

But its glowing exterior isn’t the only interesting architectural element of the Aberdeen University Library—the interior features a large, curvilinear opening that cuts through each level to create a continuous, fluid connection from the floor to the height of the building.
