COMPUTER IN OUR LIVES

With the average family home boasting 2.6 computers and or game consoles, the change in the family dynamic is profound. Kids do their homework online, they play on their computers (instead of outside) and families keep in touch with distant relatives via email, rather than by visiting or picking up the phone.

Of course it’s not necessarily all bad… people who use email subsequently keep in contact much more frequently and parents notice a huge improvement in their kids homework as a result of using the Internet as a research tool.

The most noticable downside involves communication within the home and the negative impact on health, when the number of computers in most homes far exceeds the number of bicycles.

The lives of families... have been completely changed by the internet and the abundance of gadgets and other electronic devices in the average home. BT's Digital Living report for 2006 suggests that digital play, rather than outdoor play, is becoming the norm for the nation's children.
